Recital Day Information
What you need to know for recital day
WHAT TO EXPECT ON RECITAL DAY
Please arrive at least 45 minutes before show time with your dancer, with hair and makeup done. Your dancer and one parent/guardian (female only) will be allowed to go to the dressing rooms. All other family members may find their seats. Seating starts 30 minutes prior to show time. Once your dancer is settled and is in their first costume, we ask that you also find your seat. No dads or male siblings may enter the female dressing room areas.
Frequently asked questions about CAC recitals
“Can people come to the dress rehearsal to watch and what should we expect?”
Dress rehearsals are closed to everyone except for dancers and volunteers! Friends and family are not allowed into the dress rehearsal at any time. Dress rehearsal is run identical to the show however; some of the pieces may run more than once on stage for lighting and staging corrections. Students must sit in the audience in the assigned seats for their class.
“Can I take pictures or video at the recital?”
We do not allow videotaping or photos to be taken during the recital. This is strictly enforced. We have hired a videographer and each registered family will receive a DVD of the performance as part of their recital fee. Additional copies can be ordered in the office.
“How do I go about checking my dancer in and out backstage?”
When arriving at the show a female caregiver may walk your child to the dressing area and check them in with the backstage attendants. Dancers can eat snacks in the dressing room as long as it’s not something that will mess up their costumes. We just ask that people be careful of crumbs since some dancers are walking around barefoot. No Juice, Popcorn, Nuts or Sesame Products please!
“Do we have to stay after our piece for the finale?”
It is not mandatory for the kids 6 and under, who are only in the first half to stay for the finale. They may get picked up in the dressing room during the intermission. We strongly encourage older dancers (ages 7 and up) to stay backstage and take a bow with the studio. If the dancer plans to watch the second half of the show in the audience, they will need a ticket.
“How will my dancer know when their piece should go onstage?”
The backstage attendants will stay with their groups until they are called. There will be a “runner” working to put each group on standby. There will also be a TV set up in the dressing area with a live view of the show onstage so the dancers can sit and watch while they wait. Please make sure your dancer is in the dressing room area 45 minutes prior to the start of the recital
Safety & Security
Please observe the following details for the safety of our students
To ensure the safety, order and well being of students all dancers must remain backstage throughout the entire performance. If there is an extenuating circumstance (such as illness) arrangements must be made prior to show commencement with the Artistic Director (Ex: Dancers aged 6 and under that are not in the second half of the show may leave at intermission)
Any dancer who leaves backstage, before the end of the show, will not be permitted back in.
All students will be appropriately supervised with each dancer able to view the performance through backstage video monitoring TV’s.
Unless assisting as a backstage volunteer all parents must leave the backstage area once their dancer is dressed for their first dance. There will be plenty of help for each dancer to change costumes and hair during the performance. The theatre has strict room occupancy restrictions and you will be asked to leave if you are not wearing a name tag.
Each dancer will arrive through the back stage door. One female adult may enter through the back stage door, to pick up their dancer(s) in their dressing room. Please do this for the dress rehearsal and upon each completion of each show. All dancers, 12 years of age and under, are to be picked up by a responsible adult. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!
