CLASS ATTIRE

Shoes

• Females*: Bare feet for ages 2-4yrs. Leather ballet slippers that fit like a glove, for Pre-Primary Ballet and up. Typically, “Ballet pink” is the color for light-skinned females and our local dance stores, The Movement Boutique and Dance Essentials both carry a wide range of additional shades for more diverse skin tones. Ballet shoes can also be purchased at Dance Essentials (Ballet shoes purchased at Walmart and Superstore are not acceptable.) Intermediate Foundation & above may have snug fitting canvas slippers or leather.
• Black Character Shoes for Grades 2 through 7 (Bloch brand) may be required. Teacher will confirm so please do not buy ahead of time.
• Pointe shoes for Intermediate Foundation and above: only at teacher’s discretion.
• Males*: Bare feet for ages 2-4yrs. White leather or canvas ballet slippers for Primary Ballet and up.

Clothing – Females* We have adjusted the ballet attire to allow different body types to use different company of bodysuit. We expect there to be different shades of each color. Ballet belts that closely match the bodysuit color will be required for Ballet Class Awards.

• Preschool Dance Level 1 & 2 — any solid-color body suit, short-sleeve or tank strap. Footless ballet tights.
• Pre-Primary Ballet– any solid-color body suit, short-sleeve or tank strap.
• Primary & Grade 1 – Sleeveless leotard; Color: Lilac
• Grade 2 & 3 – Sleeveless leotard in navy blue.
• Grade 4 & 5 – Sleeveless leotard in Color Renaissa  (RR) or burgundy.
• Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced –Wide Strap leotard in black is required for Exams. Any black bodysuit will be allowed for class. Dancers may wear the matching skirts for the more contemporary variation or a tutu for the classical variation.

Tights are required for all levels and can be the traditional “Ballet pink” color or one more closely matching the dancer’s skin tone so long as they are purchased from a dance wear store. For ages 2-4 they are footless or convertible and for 5 and up either full or convertible.

Clothing – Males*

• Preschool Dance Level 1 & 2, Pre-Primary and Primary Ballet– black or navy spandex shorts, black or white tight-fitting tank top or t-shirt. White socks.
• Grade 1-5 – Navy spandex shorts or stirrup tights, white short-sleeve leotard or tight-fitting, white tank top, white socks. Looser shorts may be worn overtop if they are no longer than mid thigh. A dance belt may also be required depending on age.
• Intermediate Foundation, Grade 6 and up – grey stirrup tights, dance belt, white short sleeve or sleeveless leotard, white socks.

*Dancers may choose which ever uniform fits their gender expression and it does not need to be the same as their assigned gender at birth or gender identity. Our Ballet uniform guidelines follow those set by the RAD and there is not a gender-neutral option at this time – though we hope for that change to happen! If you have concerns about which to choose for your child, please let us know.  

Shoes: Black oxford type shoe for adults and teens. Children should wear black, low-heeled tap shoe (1” or less).

Clothing Option #1: — Black body suit with black leggings, spandex shorts or jazz pants. May wear a tight-fitting tank top over body suit – any solid color. If in Ballet on the same day, RAD required bodysuit may be worn instead.

Clothing Option #2: – Black shorts with black tight-fitting tank top.

Shoes – Beige or brown Jazz shoes (soft) that most closely match the color of your leg. Split sole is preferred (jazz runners are not allowed). Dancers in Inter/Adv Jazz may also require a heeled Jazz shoe.

Clothing Option #1- Black body suit with black leggings, spandex shorts or jazz pants. May wear a tight-fitting tank top over body suit – any solid color. If in Ballet on the same day, RAD required bodysuit may be worn instead.

Clothing Option #2: – Black shorts with black tight-fitting tank top.

Shoes:   Bare Feet. Please ask your teacher before purchasing half-soles, etc

Clothing Option #2: – Black shorts with black tight-fitting tank top.

Additional layers for floor work are recommended that fit close to the body but have long sleeves and legs.

Shoes: White, non-marking shoes only (no street shoes) with no other colors on them. Can be runner style or keds style. These will be part of the dancers’ performance costume.

Clothing:

• Short sleeved, baggy t-shirt or tank (nothing tight)
• Sweat pants or shorts (if baggy shorts, mid-thigh spandex shorts must be worn underneath). Street clothing like jeans and crop tops are not allowed.

Shoes:   Bare feet (thin socks or convertible tights recommended for practicing splits)

Clothing Option #1- Black body suit with black leggings or spandex shorts. May wear a tight-fitting, black tank top over body suit. If in Ballet on the same day, RAD required bodysuit may be worn instead with a black tank overtop.

Clothing Option #2: – Black shorts with black tight-fitting tank top.

Crop tops are not permitted as they do not allow the instructor to spot the dancer safely.
